What People Say

David Garbarz

“What a joy it’s been to work with Elizabeth for the past 10 years! The studio is clean and inviting and she’s well-paced, challenging and understanding of client needs. She offers a full body workout on both mat and reformer. Touch of Pilates is the top Pilates studio in the Madison market!”

Rachelann Barkley

“I’ve always felt too big to exercise. Touch of Pilates made me feel comfortable in my own skin as it was. As my body transformed my confidence grows. I’ve had many gym memberships and Touch of Pilates is the only place I see change in my body and mind.”

Carrie Prell

“I have curvature in my spine and if left alone as I age it will cause many problems. Pilates increased my range of motion, improved mu posture, and strengthen my abs which is crucial to protecting my back. I now look forward with confidence to a healthy future. They really care about each individual, are passionate about what they can do for you and want to work with you.

Jo H.

“I was looking for an alternative to lifting weights at the gym, which I hate, for toning and firming my body. I have taken 5 reformer classes from Elizabeth, and I am hooked. The classes are small which allow for individualized attention. Doing the moves correctly is incredibly important, and under her watchful eye I know that I am working out in a safe and effective manner. I always feel like I got a great workout after each class, and I drive in from the southeast side of Madison to take classes. This place is a gem!”

Morgan King

“Elizabeth is, hands down, the best Pilates instructor in Madison. She really cares about her clients. Pilates isn’t just her business, it’s her passion and it shows in her instruction.”

Debe van

“Elizabeth structures her classes to improve the muscle strength and flexibility of her students. She gives detailed instructions and watches all movements. She strives to quickly communicate with participants – giving positive feedback and/or indicating small changes to maximize exercises. The limited class size, relaxing environment, and knowledgeable instructors make this facility a Pilates’s “gem” in the Madison area. Visit, take a class, and you will become a fan as well. The studio is amazing!”

Malia Smith

Best Pilates studio in town! Elizabeth is a fantastic teacher, the workouts are challenging and varied, and the studio is beautiful and clean. I have been taking group lessons and private lessons from Elizabeth for four years and have noticed a huge improvement in flexibility, strength, posture, and tone. She tailors the workouts to each client, and is great at coaching beginners and experts, both in a group setting and individually. She is knowledgeable with prenatal/postpartum pilates too!

David Huntsman

I’ve been working with Elizabeth for several years now, and she’s the best pilates is teacher I’ve ever had. I’ve done both private and group classes, for reformer as well as mat, and each has its own unique flavor and intrigue. She is particularly gifted at identifying weak areas/muscle groups and targeting them over the course of several months to bring bilateral strength and flexibility.

Christine Thorne

I had never done Pilates in my life and did a beginner class. Liz was so patient. Not only did she take her time making sure I was doing the moves correctly, she explained the reason for the moves. She is such a great teacher, very knowledgeable. I’d recommend her to anyone in the area!

Emma S

I appreciate the small size of the classes, which allows each participant to get individualized feedback and coaching even in a group setting. The atmosphere is welcoming and fun… even when it’s challenging! Elizabeth truly cares about helping each student progress at their own level. I joined as an absolute beginner and today I’m glad I landed at Touch of Pilates. I would definitely recommend Touch of Pilates to those who are new to pilates, or anyone looking for supportive and high-quality pilates instruction.

History and Benefits of Pilates

Pilates is bases off of 8  Basic  Pilates Principles of control, centering, coordination, precision, balance, flow, breath, and concentration. It was design by a man name Joseph Pilates who was born in Germany in 1880 and emigrated to America in 1926 before world war II to teach his techniques called Contrology which we now call Pilates. Contrology method is based on bringing whole body health so you may have the ability to perform life’s daily activities with joy and ease. He studied anatomy and movement and designed not only mat workout from his studies but also designed  different types of equipment to help assist the body to move with control and precision in each movement. He believed “The attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure.” He also believed you were not defined by your age but how you can move your body in life. The Pilates Technique will help tone and build long lean muscles, improve flexibility, and articulation of the body. Increase the range of motion of the body and joints and fight muscular imbalances for better balance and health. Develop strong muscles that surround and support the spine and improve circulation, stamina, and coordination. Pilates will also  give you awareness and ability to maintain proper posture through your daily activities in life
