What makes Touch of Pilates different?
Quality
We don’t just put a bunch of exercises together, we create each class specifically with you in mind. You are more than just a number to us. Our instructors design each class to be an exciting and safe environment that takes into consideration the physical needs and fitness level of each participant in the class. Please sign up for classes early so we can make sure your class is tailored just for you.
Our classes are small but get huge results. They have limited capacity on purpose so we can provide each participant with the attention they deserve. We help you reach your full health potential through body movement and awareness.
Supporting You
80% of Americans who have memberships to a gym or studio do not use them. Many gyms, studios, and online classes count on you not being there in order to make their profits. They need about 10x the number of members that can fit inside their facility to make it worth their time. They calculate that only about 18% of people who buy memberships will ever use them consistently. It becomes more about supporting themselves than supporting you in your health.
We designed our scheduling system and payment options to provide you with success in your fitness goals without having to waste money. We help you create a well-being lifestyle that you can commit to.
Fair Pay for Instructors
At many fitness studios, professional trainers and instructors are underpaid and much of the money goes into the pockets of the facility they are teaching at. This leads to those studios having inexperienced teachers and lower quality classes. It also puts hardship on the instructors who often need a second job to make a living.
At Touch of Pilates, we pay our instructors a fair wage, which lets us retain the best instructors and maintain the high quality of our classes. You can feel good knowing a large percentage of your payment for classes goes to support your instructor as they support your health.
Building a Community
The health of the community is just as important as a healthy body. We are a local company that not only improves the health of community members, but also provides high quality employment for our instructors and supports other local businesses and nonprofit organizations in the community. Our goal is to build relationships in the community to create a healthy future.
The Pilates Method teaches you to be in control of your body and not at its mercy.
-Joseph Pilates
History and Benefits of Pilates
Pilates is based on the Eight Basic Pilates Principles of control, centering, coordination, precision, balance, flow, breath, and concentration. It was designed by a man named Joseph Pilates who was born in Germany in 1880 and emigrated to America in 1926 before World War II to teach his techniques called Contrology, which we now call Pilates.
Contrology was created to provide whole body health so you have the ability to perform life’s daily activities with joy and ease. Joseph Pilates studied anatomy and movement and designed not only mat workouts from his studies but also designed different types of equipment to help assist the body to move with control and precision. He believed in “The attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure.” He also believed you were not defined by your age but how you can move your body.
The Pilates technique helps tone and build long lean muscles, improve flexibility and articulation of the body, and increase the range of motion of the body and joints. It helps fight muscular imbalances for better balance and health. It allows you to develop strong muscles that surround and support the spine and it improves circulation, stamina, and coordination. Pilates also gives you improved awareness and the ability to maintain proper posture through your daily activities.
